I was looking for a basic binaural beats 🎧 tool but most of them are overcomplicated with distracting UI, ads, signup walls, spiritual marketing fluff, proprietary stuff, and unnecessary features such as white noise and ambient music and whatnot. So I went ahead and created this minimalist open-source web-app where you control the actual scientific variables 🔬.

How to use

Best thing to do is to select one of the presets from the menu on the top...

And hit play. Simple as that. These are values prescribed by experts and hence most binaural beats tools use these at core.

For the advanced users, the main inputs which matter are "Base Frequency" and "Beat Frequency". You can experiment with these, but please do it at your own risk, as this is still not a well proven hard science. May be it not even is. We don't know the effects of any random values. The presets values however are long tested and fair amount of testimonies exist for their positive effects.

You can input duration for how long ⏱️ the binaural beats should keep playing. This is best if you want to leave the computer unattended while meditating away from it for a set duration of time. And finally there is a volume control. This caps at the current volume of your system, so you can have this playing along with 🎶 music.

How it works

At the core, two inputs matter: the "Base Frequency" and the "Beat Frequency". While base is just a flat tone that you will hear on your left ear, the beat is the difference that will be added to the right ear. Technically your right ear also hears just a flat tone, but effectively the 2 waves will collide and create difference patterns 🧩, hence creating the audible beats.

A very cool way of testing this is put any frequency in base, and then put 1 in beat. When you play, you will hear a 1 second wobble. This is the "beat". Now put 2, you will hear a wobble that is twice every 1 second and so on, again 2 beats. And so on.
